Start a new marking project
Each assessment you mark is a project: one spec, one rubric, the students' submissions, their marks and your settings. Start one with New marking in the sidebar.
Start a project
- Choose New marking in the sidebar.
- Add the spec, the rubric and the student submissions. See Your first marking run.
- Press Start marking or Mark all.
Nothing is saved until step 3. Before then, you can remove any attached file with its close button and add another. Once marking starts, the project is saved and appears in the sidebar under Recents.
How projects are named
DeepMarking reads the unit code, unit title, assessment number and assessment title from your spec. It uses them for two names:
| Name | Where it appears | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Short title | Sidebar | BUSN1001-A1-Jul-26 |
| Main title | Project header and exports | Assessment 1: Market Analysis Report |
The short title is the unit code, the assessment number, and the month and year the project was created. The date keeps two runs of the same assessment in different terms apart. If two projects still share a short title, the sidebar adds (1), (2) and so on.
Fix a title
If the spec did not name something, the header shows a placeholder such as XXXX00000 or Untitled Unit. Hover over it to see where to fix it.
After marking, the project card beside the results has Unit code, Assessment no., Unit title and Assessment title fields. Edit any of them and click away. The header, sidebar and exported marking sheets pick up the change.
Rename, pin or delete
Open the menu on a project's row in the sidebar:
- Rename changes the project's name.
- Pin keeps it under Pinned at the top. Unpin reverses this.
- Delete removes the project with its submissions and marks.
How many projects you can have
Your plan sets how many active assessments you can keep: 1 on Free, 20 on Pro, 50 on Plus and 100 on Max. When you reach the limit, starting a new marking opens Assessment limit reached. Delete an old project or upgrade.
When files look mismatched
If the spec, rubric and submissions seem to come from different assessments, for example different unit codes, you see These files may not belong together. Choose I will check them to go back, or They are the right files to carry on.
When it is the rubric that does not match the spec, you see This rubric may not match the spec instead, with the same choices as No rubric yet plus Keep my rubric.
